Nació el 21 de junio de 1966, en el barrio El Cilindro Municipal de Montevideo.
Sus inicios fueron en Nacional, donde su padre había sido lateral izquierdo y luego se retiró en La Luz, un equipo de la B.
Al igual que su papá Sanguinetti eligió ser marcador de punta, aunque se paró más por la derecha. Su carrera continúo en Wanderes y en Racing de Montevideo.
En 1991 cruzó el charco y llegó a Gimnasia, donde marcaría a fuego su carrera. Su presentación fue el 1 de septiembre y el rival Mandiyú. Desde ese día, que el Lobo igualó sin goles, el “Topo” no se sacó más la camiseta tripera hasta su retiro, en el 2003. La gente lo ovacionó en su último partido contra Huracán y le respondió con una inscripción en la camiseta a modo de homenaje: "De Topo a Lobo en 12 años".
En su pasó por el Club, Sanguinetti ganó la Copa Centenario y participó de los subcampeonatos de 1995, 1996, 1998 y 2002. Además disputó la primera Libertadores que el club jugó (en el 2003) y es el segundo jugador con más partidos en la historia del club, sólo lo supera San Esteban.
Durante el trascurso de su carrera en el Lobo, Sanguinetti fue requerido por la selección de su país en las eliminatorias para el Mundial de 1998.
